The combination of generous snow falls, abundance of free spaces, an appealing landscape, and good paths for winter hiking and amazing views creates the ideal conditions for alpine ski and free riding, in the fresh powder.
Some of the ski plants seem to be ad-hoc positioned to facilitate the free riding lovers without the need to ire expensive helicopters or climb too much.
If you want to practice alpine ski or free riding, the best way is to hire a guide. If you want to do without, you need to know the territory and the descends very well. Prior your hike, you must contact Promotur, the company that manages the Sella Nevea ski runs, to check the snow conditions and the avalanches risk. You also must inform the Sella Nevea alpine rescue Guardia di Finanza, telling them where you are going and for how many days. It is advisable to bring the equipment to allow being rescued in case of avalanche hit.

FREERIDE ITINERARIES
For freeride itineraries we mean those accessible using the ski plants, without the need of walking or trekking, if not minimal. For these itineraries as well as for the ski alp ones it is absolutely necessary to know the lines and where to go and especially where not to go. It is also compulsory to verify the state of the snow and acknowledge the risk of avalanches. For the these reasons it is suggested to approach the freeride activity with an alpine guide.
On the Italian side of the ski area, the most classical paths start from Golovec, on the left hand side of the arrival of the funifor slovita cable car, on the border with Slovenia. The entire area between mounts Poviz, Leupa, Cergnala and the arrival of the old Canin cable car is a gigantic snow park. This is arguably the only part of the Alps that can enjoy a carsic morphology of the landscape that creates dunes, cliffs, drops, jumps available to satisfy the most demanding rider.
On the Slovenian side of the mountain, it is well known the Krnica valley, a long freeride path starting at 2300 mt and ending at 980 mt. Krnica is fascinating but to avoid if there is avalanches danger. Always on the Slovenian side there are a lot of itineraries descending from the top of the ski plants to the cableway second stop. Watch out the holes and get a guide for the first runs.
